Childcare Available

Reminder to Job Seekers – the YMCA is making childcare available for children 6 and under during our Network for Job Seekers meetings (8:30 – 10:30 a.m. Thursdays) if a lack of childcare is going to prevent you from attending. Please call the Y no later than noon on Wednesdays before you need Thursday childcare so that they can be prepared. Their phone number is 492-9134.

Also, all job seekers are encouraged to take an online Myers-Briggs personality test (many are available at no charge) in order to determine your personality type … and be able to understand how that impacts you in the workplace. This will help you to know yourself better as you tell prospective employers what they can expect if they hire you as a member of their team.

Email To Job Seekers

Thank you for your participation in the Network For Job Seekers. We hope that the meetings have been supportive, encouraging, and helpful.

1) Classic Products in Piqua will be holding Metal Roofing Installation Training on September 10 and 11 and October 8 and 9. There is no fee for this training but you need to notify me in advance that you are coming. You also will need to bring tool belt, hammer, measuring tape, pencil, and tin snips if you have those things. Going through the training could help someone obtain work in the construction field. We also have numerous dealers who we could try to connect you with. You will receive a certificate for going through the training.

2) We have recently learned of a company that is looking for a sales manager with experience in industrial and waste water pumps. If you or anyone you know of may fit that criteria, please let me know.

Network For Job Seekers Announced

Displaced workers in our area are encouraged to attend the Network for Job Seekers, a new organization formed by the Upper Miami Valley Think Tank, an organization of local Christian Businesspersons. Network meetings will be held at the Sidney-Shelby County YMCA on Thursdays from 8:30 to 10:30 AM beginning on August 20th and continuing weekly. Two short presentations, one covering job seeking techniques and one for encouragement and support through the emotional times of being unemployed, are provided each week with networking and community time included. The objective is to provide job seekers the opportunity to communicate who they are and what they are looking for in a job within a safe environment for learning and networking. The network they develop will be the single most powerful technique for finding a position. Pre-Registration is not required. Handouts from past presentations will be provided allowing anyone to join the group at anytime.

An additional component of the Network for Job Seekers, available to those who are interested, will be individual or small group career counseling and mentoring with members of the Upper Miami Valley Think Tank. These committed businesspeople are available to work with individuals who may be looking at a career change and especially to work with those who may have entrepreneurial aspirations and be interested in starting or acquiring their own business.

The Network for Job Seekers will also create a list of local job seekers and their unique skills for sharing with area employers. This will be optional for participants in the Network but it could be of great value in their employment search.
