Supplier Evaluation/Purchasing Engineer

Due to product development this successful manufacturer, a leader in their industry, will be adding a SUPPLIER EVALUATION ENGINEER to focus on their new 2011 program. This position reports to the director of design engineering and will work within a team of 7 individuals.

The position is responsible for sourcing prototype, pre-production product and tooling, supplier capability audits, supplier capacity studies, supplier quality audits, supplier certification, and supplier startup issue resolution. Overall responsibility to initiate contractual commitments and analyze engineering specifications, design changes and other data to plan parts support activities from conceptual stage through the production launch of the product. Identify and execute material and labor cost reduction and quality improvements for pre-production components and processes through the use of tools such as VAVE, Six Sigma, DFMEAs and PFMEAs.

Candidates must be open to travel up to 25%. This is a full time opening on days. Qualified candidates should be energetic, focused, flexible, approachable, team oriented, able to work with minimal direction and collected. REQUIREMENTS for the Supplier Evaluation Engineer (procurement)
1. A 4 year degree in a related field
2. A minimum of 8-12 years RECENT work experience purchasing in an OEM or tier one environment (including purchasing of electronics, fabrications, composite, extrusions, hardware and plastics.)
3. STRONG negotiation skills
4. Experience sourcing new vendors
5. Establishing cost saving measures with vendors
6. Ability to read blue prints
7. MRP or ERP experience
8. Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook and Excel.
9. 25% Travel mostly domestic

Skills preferred but NOT required:
1. Lean or Six Sigma Methodologies
2. Solidworks (3D programs)
3. CPM or CPIM certification
4. MBA
5. Tooling procurement
6. VAVE
